Plant a Tree - Offsetting your Carbon Footprint

All Parents, Players and Supporters were invited to Sponsor a Tree, well, actually, a one metre section of trees, that have been planted along the top edge of Meltham Road Rec.

In future years, this planting will provide some shelter from the wind and rain, for supporters and players.

Over 30 sets of trees were Sponsored and, along with a contribution from HJFC, the trees have now been planted.

Before - One Holly bush for shelter

When the weather is poor and there is a strong wind over the 'tops' from Meltham, there is little protection from the elements, but for one holly bush, half-way along the top wall.

The stretch of trees close to the top wall will provide a screen from the wind and some protection from the driving rain.

How it happened?

The Beneficial Tree Care Company planted a bank of trees (about 5 trees per m²).

The trees were planted, the ground prepared with mulch, stakes for each tree, protective wire and a sturdy wooden fence should help protect the trees.

Some people requested plaques. Many thanks to Cobwood Trophies in Milnsbridge who supported our tree planting efforts by donating the money paid for the plaques to the tree planting fund, so that more trees could be planted.

Thanks also to Ramsay Bloom (Forestry Officer) at Kirklees who has been very supportive and have given permission for us to go ahead with this project.
